I wrote a review (in Dutch) of two books proclaiming the ‘New Biology’: How Life Works, a User’s Guide to the New Biology by Philip Ball and The New Biology: a Battle between Mechanism and Organicism by Michael Reiss and Michael Ruse. Both books argue that we may need to update our world view based on recent developments in biology, but arrive at quite different conclusions regarding humanity's place in nature. Published in The Dutch Review of Books.

July 2024

I collaborated with artist Gunnhild Torgersen on her exhibition Pathmakers at Krognoshuset in Lund, Sweden. Her sculptures explore the no man's land between inanimate matter and life, and in my short companion essay I draw a few parallels with theoretical biology and science fiction literature.
